“Landscape with Steer” is a work of transition and experimentation, in which Pollock takes up the tradition of the landscape with an animal, but transfigures it through an intense palette and a vibrant painterly gesture. On a small surface emerges the figure of a steer, outlined in black contours that make it recognisable, while around it unfold skies and lands of strong tones — blues, reds, yellows — mixed with airbrushed washes and evocative spatters.
The background seems to churn, almost to pulse, like a threatening or primordial atmosphere. The contrast between the defined animal form and the vibrant painted setting creates a dialogue between the real and the visionary, between memory and experimentation. The work shows Pollock poised between tradition and innovation, his gaze already turned towards new formal directions: not a tranquil landscape, but a lived-in landscape, charged with energy and inner tension.
