The artwork
An 18th-century, romantic view of a landscape with a ruined temple, by Gaspare Vanvitelli. On the right is a villa. The setting is at the foot of a hill. It is one of the few works by van Wittel in light colours, dominated by white, light brown and light blue blending in varied shades. On the right is a fine tree, while the road descends on the left of the temple. The work is dated 1716.
