A wonderful, decadent view of a landscape with ancient Roman ruins, made by Bernardo Bellotto. The monuments are in decay, left to neglect and oblivion. The ancient colonnade nevertheless withstands the passing of time. In the background, barely perceptible, are a dome and a bell tower, but they do not seem to belong to Rome. The day is clear and serene.
The picture, an etching in black on cream laid paper, is undated.
