A distinctive view of life on the riverbank in a landscape with ruins in the background, painted by Jan Frans van Bloemen near a river. The boats, the lantern and the travellers busy with various activities stand out. A special lighting effect falls on the ruins of the temple set on a small hill. Mountains are barely suggested in the far distance. The dominant colour is green, which Bloemen has shaded with mastery and artistry.
