An original and very fine work depicting the Lamentation over the Dead Christ, painted by Correggio (Antonio Allegri).
The Lamentation over the Dead Christ is an oil painting on canvas datable to around 1524 and held in the Galleria Nazionale in Parma. Together with the Martyrdom of Four Saints, it formed part of the decoration of the Del Bono Chapel in the church of San Giovanni Evangelista: the two canvases adorned the side walls, the Lamentation on the right and the Martyrdom on the left.
