The artwork
Before the famous garden at Giverny there was this one: the house at Argenteuil covered in green, the pots of flowers along the path and Monet's son playing with his hoop. You receive it printed on handmade Amalfi paper, in a handmade frame.
- Jean with his hoop, Camille in the doorway and the large pots along the path.
- Greens, blues and white clouds: a fine day to hang on your wall.
- A gift for anyone who loves gardens and home.
From 1871 to 1878 Monet lived with his family in Argenteuil, a small town on the Seine just outside Paris. These were good years: the art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel had recently bought several of his paintings, and for once money was not short.
The boy with the hoop is Jean, the painter's son, who was five or six years old. In the doorway of the ivy-covered house stands Camille, Monet's wife. The garden is well kept, the sky is clear, and everything feels calm: it is the portrait of a contented family in its garden, many years before the famous one at Giverny. The original is in the Art Institute of Chicago, in the United States.
In a hallway or a kitchen it brings the cheerfulness of a sunny day in the garden. It is a gift for anyone who has just bought a home, or who loves growing flowers.
