Feel the history under your fingers

Our reproductions are extremely faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper .

It is a paper made exclusively of cotton fibres, thick and naturally porous , but soft to the touch, with the characteristic fringed edges that testify to its artisanal workmanship.

It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.

The work

This work offers one of the most intense images of late sixteenth-century Bologna: the young Judith, elegantly dressed, still holding her sword while displaying Holofernes' head like a silent trophy. The scene doesn't indulge in crudeness, but focuses the tension in the protagonist's gaze and her silent relationship with the viewer.

The refinement of the fabrics, the attention to detail in the jewelry, and the subtle interplay between portraiture and sacred subject hark back to the finest tradition of the Bolognese school, of which Lavinia Fontana is one of the most authoritative exponents. The frontal layout and simplified background enhance the direct dialogue with the viewer, transforming a biblical episode into a meditation on power, virtue, and female determination.

This is a subject of great fortune in the history of art, here depicted with restraint and psychological intensity, suitable for collectors interested in late Renaissance painting and the themes of the female representation of power.
