An original and rare painting depicting the moment of a conquering army's entry into Rome, made by Bernardo Bellotto. We are in the time of Urban VIII; the painting is dated 1779. The invading army is led by Jerzy Ossoliński, envoy of Władysław IV, King of Poland. Prominent is the great crowd of people and horses in St Peter's Square. We are in the midst of the invasion, the day is serene, and fortune seems to smile on the conquerors. Another variant of this work exists.
