The subject
"The Painter's Father" is an oil painting by the famous French post-impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, executed around 1865 and kept at the National Gallery in London.
The work portrays the artist's father, Louis-Auguste Cézanne, sitting in a wooden armchair with an open book on his lap. The figure of the father, who was around 60 years old at the time, is represented with great attention to detail, such as the folds of his dark suit and the wrinkles on his face.
