On 2 September 1945, aboard the battleship USS Missouri, the Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu signed the Instrument of Surrender on behalf of the Japanese government. This event marked the official end of the Second World War, with Japan’s unconditional surrender to the Allied forces. The ceremony took place in Tokyo Bay in the presence of representatives of the Allied nations, sealing the conclusion of one of the most devastating conflicts in history and the beginning of global reconstruction.
