House and Farm at the Jas de Bouffan depicts Paul Cézanne's famous family estate, a place fundamental to his life and artistic research. The architectural complex emerges from the landscape in solid, geometric forms, harmoniously integrated into the Provençal countryside. Cézanne builds the scene through overlapping planes of colour, using warm tones for the buildings and greens and blues for the vegetation and the sky.
The composition is balanced and stable, free of narrative effects, focused on the relationship between volumes, space and light. The house is depicted not as a mere dwelling, but as an essential pictorial structure, almost an organism in dialogue with its surroundings. In this work Cézanne turns a personal place into a universal theme, anticipating a modern vision of landscape based on form and construction.
