The artwork
La Scapigliata, or Head of a Woman, is a work attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, created between 1504 and 1508. Housed in the Galleria Nazionale in Parma, it depicts the face of a young woman with loose, disheveled hair, hence the title. The unfinished painting is executed on wood with a mixed technique of oil and earth, lending the figure an ethereal and mysterious aura. Her downcast gaze and subtle smile recall the enigmatic sweetness of the Mona Lisa.
Here, Leonardo explores feminine grace and natural beauty through soft lines and delicate chiaroscuro. The work embodies Leonardo's poetics of the "unfinished," emphasizing inner expression rather than formal perfection. La Scapigliata represents one of the finest examples of Leonardo da Vinci's psychological sensitivity and technical mastery.
