An original historical painting by Jakob Philipp Hackert depicting the return of the Neapolitan fleet from the Algiers campaign. The dominant colours are violet and blue, softly shaded in both sky and sea. The quay is crowded, many of them relatives of the sailors on board. Offshore, the ships are manoeuvring to re-enter the harbour basin. Rowing boats set off from the ships carrying sailors who are at last returning to their homeland.
The painting is on display at the Royal Palace of Royal Palace of Caserta.
