The artwork
Original and rare 18th-century view of Campo San Geremia, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the Grand Canal, traversed by boats of various sizes. The water was painted by the artist with shades of light green and blue. On the left side of the painting there is the bell tower of San Geremia, with a small dock, while on the other side of the canal we can see Palazzo Labia. The two parts of the neighborhood are connected by a single-arched bridge. The sky is clear, but with a few clouds on the horizon.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist, which is part of a private collection.
