Original and rare 18th-century painting of the Rialto Bridge, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the Grand Canal, bustling with boats, surrounded by beautiful Venetian palaces. Canaletto paints the canal water with shades of blue-green, taking on a color similar to that of the sky. Further in the background there is the covered Rialto Bridge, with its shops, a landmark for Venetians.
The sky is cloudy, tinged with light blue and gray, with a few clouds. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1724. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist.
