Original 18th-century view of the Grand Canal in Venice, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the Grand Canal, traversed by boats of various sizes. The water was painted by Canaletto with shades of light green and blue. On the left side of the painting there are several buildings arranged side by side, while on the other side are buildings with a setting sun, in shadow. The sky features a few threatening, dark clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1726. Canaletto created other variations of this work.
