Rare and original 18th-century view of the Grand Canal in Venice, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The canal is highlighted, bustling with boats of various sizes, with a particular emphasis on the pale green and blue water. On the sides of the canal there are beautiful Venetian palaces, arranged side by side. On the left side, the buildings are illuminated by the sun, while on the right, they are in the shadow. The sky is very overcast, with threatening clouds on the horizon. The sky in the foreground is black, then it fades to white in the background, lending a distinctive light to the entire painting.
The work is dated 1726; other variations of this painting by Canaletto exist.
