The artwork
"Yellow Red Blue" (Gelb Rot Blau) is an oil on canvas painted by Wassily Kandinsky in 1925, during his time teaching at the Bauhaus. This work is one of the purest manifestations of his approach to abstract art, based on synaesthesia and colour theory.
The painting is divided into two main sections: on the left, rigid geometric forms prevail, in particular a large yellow area dominated by rectangles, which the artist associated with a sharp tone and centrifugal movement. On the right, the deep blue and the red merge with more curved, free and mysterious forms, symbolising tranquillity and passion.
Kandinsky used black lines to separate and unite the various elements, creating a complex and dynamic rhythm. The work represents nothing objective, but aims to express emotions and spiritual resonances purely through the interaction of colour, form and line, reflecting Kandinsky's belief in the inner power of art.
