A rare and original 18th-century view of the Fonteghetto della Farina in Venice, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. Prominent are the small quay and the gently rising street leading to the mill. On the quay scenes of daily life are depicted, while on the canal are the usual boats, some at anchor, others manoeuvring. Behind the Fonteghetto are other buildings of Venice, portrayed in the distance. The sky is overcast, with dark clouds on the horizon. The work is dated 1730.
