Everything in this fresco exalts the idea of flight: the quick tread of the feet, the line of brooding rocks and the gesturing angel in the sky. Giotto uses the fresco technique. It is a technique of mural painting carried out on freshly laid lime plaster. The pigment is mixed with water and, as the plaster sets, the painting becomes an integral part of the wall.
