A marvellous, clear view of Venice featuring the Grand Canal, by Bernardo Bellotto. In the foreground, on the left, is a fine palazzo painted in detail, with gondolas waiting for visitors. On the other side, in perspective, are the palazzi, the church of the Salute and Punta della Dogana, masterfully depicted by Bellotto. On the canal there is a coming and going of boats, including a few gondolas. A few clouds are forming in the sky. Several versions of this painting exist.
The painting is on display at the Fitzwilliam Museum, University of Cambridge, UK.
