The artwork
Original and luminous eighteenth-century view of the Grand Canal, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. Highlighted there is the entrance to the pier, with scenes of everyday life. In the Grand Canal, in addition to small boats, there are also large ships, such as the sailing ship in the upper left. Further in the background there is the church of Santa Maria della Salute. The sky features pale pink clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1735. Other variations of this work were created by Canaletto.
