An original and luminous 18th-century view of a detail of the Grand Canal, with two gondolas, made by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The water is painted in shades of greenish blue, with a mirror effect for the silhouettes of the two gondolas. A distinctive feature of the painting is the covered gondolas, typical of the 18th century, which are no longer used today and have been replaced by open ones. The picture, an oil on canvas, is undated.
The artwork is on display at the Louvre, Paris.
