A distinctive and historic perspective view of Piazza Colonna in 18th-century Rome, by Lievin Cruyl, in pen and brown ink with brush and grey and blue wash over stylus and graphite. The Column is most prominent; the square is framed at an angle from one corner, and scenes of everyday life are portrayed, with riders, travellers and pilgrims. Behind the column is a large Roman palace; the sky too is painted with a light blue wash.
The artwork is on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
