The artwork

A splendid and distinctive view of Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome by Lievin Cruyl, in pen and brown ink with brush and grey wash over graphite. In the foreground is Castel Sant’Angelo with its beautiful bridge crossing the Tiber, plied by boats of various sizes. Further back we find St Peter’s. The detail of the bridge reflected in the waters of the Tiber is remarkable.
