The artwork

"Ecce Homo" by Hieronymus Bosch, painted at the end of the 15th century, depicts one of the most dramatic moments of the Passion of Christ: the moment when Jesus is presented to the people by the Roman soldiers. Bosch conveys tension and pathos through the composition, the gestures of the figures and the expressions on their faces, creating an intense contrast between Christ's suffering calm and the violence or contempt of his tormentors. Typical of the Flemish master is the use of minute details and allegorical symbols that add moral and spiritual meaning to the episode.

The background and intense colours accentuate the drama of the scene, while the anatomical precision and realistic rendering of materials testify to the artist's technical mastery. The work reflects Bosch's interest in the human condition, suffering and the moral and spiritual dimension of life, turning a biblical episode into a powerful visual narrative.
