The artwork
A historical, clear view of the ruins of the Kreuzkirche in Dresden, an etching on laid paper by Bernardo Bellotto. Prominent is the tall Gothic church, in ruins, with the workmen's site for collecting reusable stone blocks. On the right are palaces lined up facing the square. The sky in the background has heavy clouds, while it is paler and softer in front of the observer. The work is undated. It is one of the 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during one of his stays. Two other variants of this work exist.
The painting is on display at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, Canada .
