A limpid, bright view of Dresden with the Augustus Bridge in 1750, by Bernardo Bellotto. Prominent is the great river Elbe, which divides the city, joined by the historic Augustus Bridge reflected in the river. On the left the church can be admired, while in the foreground, on the opposite bank, are boats and passers-by, notably a noble couple in distinguished pale clothes and turbans. The subject of the painting is the Augustus Bridge, with its fine, mighty Roman arches permanently linking the two banks of the Elbe. Bellotto paints the sky in pale shades, with a few clouds.
The painting is dated 1750. It is one of the 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during one of his stays. Other variants of this work exist.
