A clear, bright view of Dresden with the Augustus Bridge, of 1750, made by Bernardo Bellotto. Prominent is the great River Elbe, which divides the city, linked by the historic Augustus Bridge mirrored in the river. On the left the church can be admired, while in the foreground, on the opposite bank, are boats and passers-by, with a prominent couple of nobles dressed in distinguished light-coloured clothes and turbans.
The protagonist of the painting is the Augustus Bridge, with its fine, mighty Roman arches permanently linking the two banks of the Elbe. Bellotto paints the sky in light shades, with a few clouds. The picture is dated 1750; it is one of the 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during a stay there. Three other variants of this work exist.
