The protagonist of the painting is the Augustus Bridge, with its beautiful and powerful Roman arches, permanently connecting the two banks of the Elbe. The sky, painted by Bellotto with light shades and a few clouds, is highlighted. The painting is dated 1750; it is one of 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during a stay there. Three other variations of this work exist.
