The artwork
An original and luminous eighteenth-century depiction of the town of Dolo on the Venetian coast, with the Brenta River, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the riverbank, with scenes of everyday life, while on the other side there are the unkempt bourgeois buildings of Dolo, illuminated by the morning sun. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds, but it's a fine day.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist. The painting is part of a private collection.
