The artwork
A rare 18th-century depiction of a capriccio with a foreground near the Porta Portello in Padua, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The River Piovego stands out, with a woman washing clothes near the ruins of a colonnade, while on the left side is another scene of everyday life. Further back one can make out the Palazzo della Ragione, the domes of Santa Giustina and the Santo, and various bell towers of the districts of Padua. The sky is clear, with no clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated.
The artwork is on display at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg, Germany.
