The artwork
The Battle of Arques during the Eighth War of Religion in France. The pictorial map shows the area between the town and port of Dieppe at the mouth of the river Arques, inland as far as the town of Arques (today Arques-la-Bataille), depicting the siege by the Catholic army in 1589, the battlefields, the warships, the buildings and the fortifications. Beneath the view are the references to the Catholic army and the engagements depicted. Engraved by Giovanni Battista Cavalleri for Lafreri.
