The artwork
A magnificent and clear view of Venice from the Molo, depicting the Doge's departure for the wedding of the sea, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there are the festive boats sailing in various directions on the Grand Canal, while the Bucintoro, bearing the Venetian flag, is anchored to the Molo, along with the Doge. The painting depicts the Doge's Palace, the two columns of San Marco and San Todaro, and other Venetian palaces.
The day is clear and serene, and Venice is very lively. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1697, and has other similar depictions with varying colors.
