The “Danaë” by Artemisia Gentileschi depicts the princess Danaë at the moment she is visited by Jupiter, who descends upon her in the form of a shower of gold. The work combines sensuality and introspection, with a realistic rendering of the female body and a warm light that enhances the softness of the forms. Artemisia transforms the classical myth into a scene of intimate humanity and female strength, typical of her Baroque art.
