An original and luminous 18th-century depiction of the Punta della Dogana in Venice, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the landing at Punta della Dogana, with boats passing close by. The Grand Canal is very busy; in the background is another island, where the bell tower, the larger palazzi and the church can be glimpsed. The sky is clear, with a few white clouds, but it is a fine day.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1724.
