The Concert, or The Musicians, by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, painted in 1597, is an oil painting on canvas depicting a group of young musicians in classical dress, about to perform a concert.
The artwork is an allegory of music, with the presence of Cupid symbolising the union of music and love. The musicians are portrayed with great realism, and among them is also a self-portrait of Caravaggio. The scene is set in a cramped space, creating an intimate and sensual atmosphere. The painting is known for its melancholy beauty and its attention to detail, such as the musical instruments and the scores.
