"Composition in Colour A" is a 1917 work by Piet Mondrian that represents an early step towards the abstract geometric style he himself called Neoplasticism. Unlike his later and more famous works, which use pure primary colours, this work features muted colours such as dark pinkish red, deep blue and dark ochre.
These coloured areas are intersected by black lines, creating a dynamic grid of interacting elements that represent a new visual language.
