An original and refined vertical view of a landscape with large trees on either side, painted by Jan Frans van Bloemen. At the centre of the scene are some shepherds and a rider. Behind them winds a small river, while in the background are a fortress and softly blurred mountains beneath a clear sky with a few clouds. The dominant colours are green, brown and blue, shaded in many tones.
