In the foreground is the small square in front of the church of Santa Maria della Carità, while further to the left is the Grand Canal with its boats. Beyond the bank are Venetian palazzi. The sky is dark and cloudy, threatening rain.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1726.
