The artwork
Original and rare 18th-century view of the church of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, with a view of the churchyard, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the small square in front of the church of San Giorgio, with scenes of daily life. On the right, the church unfolds transversally, finely painted by Canaletto with its architectural details. The Rialto Bridge and other Venetian palaces appear in the background. The sky is clear with a few white clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated.
The work is exhibited at the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, USA.
