The title of the postcard would be "Hear! Hear! The dogs are barking!", and indeed there are dogs coming from the eastern countries threatening the Europe of the time. In the upper left corner is an English sailor-soldier who manipulates warships on strings as if they were puppets. The map thus shows a divided Europe before the outbreak of the First World War, and serves as a portent of what was to come.
