The work
The work "Charge of the Carabinieri in Pastrengo" by Sebastiano De Albertis is an oil on canvas created in 1880. This painting depicts an episode of the battle of Pastrengo, which took place on 30 April 1848, during the first Italian war of independence. The event represented is the cavalry charge carried out by the War Squadrons of the Royal Carabinieri Corps, assigned to the personal protection of King Charles Albert of Savoy.
It is interesting to note that there are different versions of this historical event created by De Albertis. One of these versions, entitled "The Battle of Pastrengo", was created between 1885 and 1890 and is preserved in the Revoltella Museum. These different representations testify to the importance of the event in Italian history and the resonance it had in De Albertis' art.
