The work
Caracalla, Roman emperor from 198 to 217, is known for his military campaigns and for the Constitutio Antoniniana, which extended Roman citizenship to all free men of the empire. Son of Septimius Severus, he reigned first with his brother Geta, whom he then had murdered to rule alone. His reign was marked by acts of cruelty and major military and administrative reforms. He was assassinated by the praetorian prefect Macrinus, putting an end to the Severian dynasty.
