An original and luminous eighteenth-century capriccio with Venetian motifs, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. We are in the Venetian lagoon; Canaletto paints a farmhouse in the foreground, with a small church in the nearby background. A bridge leads to it, and fishermen stand near the shore. In the distance, on an island in the background, a tower can be seen, while even further away, the lagoon meets the sky, blending into a single, nuanced blue.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1740. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist.
