The artwork
An original and rare 18th-century capriccio of a Venetian courtyard, painted in graphite on paper by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the courtyard, with women hanging out laundry. On the left side there is a building with a colonnade above, while below there is a shed with barrels and a press for pressing grapes. In the background of the painting, we can see a bell tower and part of the church depicted on the right side of the canvas. The sky is clear, with a few clouds on the horizon.
The work is undated. Another variant of this work by Canaletto exists.
