The artwork
Original and rare 18th-century engraving of Campo San Giacomo di Rialto, created by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the church of San Giacomo, with its colonnade, central sundial, and three bells above. In front of the churchyard there is a small square with scenes of everyday life. On the right side of the painting there is a large palace in the shadow of a setting sun. The sky is threatening, with very dark clouds in the upper left.
The work, a pen and brown ink engraving, is dated 1697.
