Historical map or zodiac chart created by Battista Agnese in 1553. This is an ink on parchment work.
The map depicts the twelve zodiac signs, which "revolve" around the earth. The signs are written in Romanic script.
This map was based on the Ptolemaic geocentric theory; in fact, in addition to the Earth (placed at the center), there are the orbits of the then-known planets and the Sun rotating around the Earth.
Battista Agnese (circa 1500 – 1564) was an Italian cartographer.
He was of Genoese origin but was active in Venice, where he worked on commission for princes, merchants, and high-ranking officials.

Our reproductions are extremely faithful to the original and printed on precious Amalfi paper.
It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.
It is still made today using ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
