The artwork
A rare 18th-century depiction of the Brenta Canal in Padua, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The canal is bordered by retaining walls. We are at the beginning of the Brenta Riviera; on the right side, you can admire a Venetian villa, while on the left, popular buildings and scenes of daily life are depicted above the high wall.
The sky is clear with a few clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1735.
