The artwork

Monet came to Bordighera, on the Italian Riviera, planning to stay three weeks: he stayed almost three months, chasing the light of the Mediterranean. You receive it printed on handmade Amalfi paper, in a handmade frame.

  • The interlacing trunks of the pines, the town among the trees and the blue sea beyond.
  • Bright greens and blues that bring the air of Liguria into your home.
  • A gift for anyone who loves the Riviera and Italy.

Early in 1884 Monet set off for Bordighera, a small town near the border between Italy and France. He wanted to paint the strong southern light, but the work was harder than he expected. To his friend the sculptor Auguste Rodin he wrote that he spent his days fighting with the sun, as if in a duel. In other letters he complained that among so much vegetation it was impossible to find a suitable subject.

In the end he climbed a hill and looked at the town through the pines. The thin, twisted trunks cross in front of us; between their crowns the houses appear and, in the distance, just a strip of sea. The original is in the Art Institute of Chicago, in the United States.

In a living room or a hallway it brings the light of a sunny day on the Riviera. It is a gift for anyone who holds Liguria dear, or who spends their holidays there.
