The painting “The Boat at Giverny” is a work by Claude Monet, one of the most influential artists of the French Impressionist movement. The work dates from the period when Monet settled in Giverny, a small village in Normandy, where he bought a property in 1890. It was here that the artist created the famous water gardens, which became an inexhaustible source of inspiration for much of his later artistic output.
At Giverny, Monet devoted himself to studying the effects of light and colour on water and vegetation. His water lilies, weeping willows, Japanese bridge and boats became recurring subjects, investigated through series of paintings that allowed the artist to explore atmospheric and seasonal variations.
